Painting Realism

This course enables the student to understand the aspects of creating realistic detail in their paintings with the use of photo references and techniques in layering and glazing. Learn the methods and secrets of successful glazing to make your paintings glow with movement and light. Suitable for beginner to advanced Ages 16 +

In addition to the material list below, oil painters need to bring a small bottle or tube of alkyd painting medium.

 

Materials List - Acrylic or Oil (You may have other colours of your choice.)

Paint - (1) tube red - suggested Cadmium red (1) tube blue - suggested Ultramine blue (1) tube yellow - suggested Lemon Yellow (1) Large tube white

Brushes suitable for Oil and/or acrylic - #4, #6, #8 filbert, flat, or bright - small round brush #1 or #2

1 pad palette paper or wooden palette.

1 small bottle of natural Orange thinner (oil painters only) Due to many solvent allergies, we are requesting persons painting in Oil to refrain from using turpentine thinners or odorless thinners.

1 Roll paper towel and/or cleaning rag. 1 small canvas or gesso primed panel.

Oil & Acrylic Painting for the Beginner or intermediate

Instructor - John Alexander Day, SCA

Students will learn basic principles of painting with an understanding of tones, lighting, composition and how they affect the finished painting. Hands on work with demonstrations by instructor. Individual instruction allows for more in depth learning of techniques.  Adults 16 + Choose your session and sign up early. See materials list at bottom of this page
